Volunteer Associates for CNVS Office

Catholic Network of Volunteer Service (CNVS), a resource center of nearly 200 Christian lay volunteer programs that place volunteers throughout the United States and in over 100 countries, seeks Volunteer Associates to provide administrative and project support in our national office in Takoma Park, Maryland, just outside Washington, DC. Service Area:  

Takoma Park, Maryland (just outside of Washington, DC)

Type of Placement:  

  • Help with team projects in our national office

  • Assist in various administrative tasks, including handing telphone inquiries regarding volunteer opportunities

  • Maintain databases and resource materials

  • Support projects including National Conference, training, workshops, fundraising, and membership and recruitment services

  • Assist with mailings, writing reports, and recordkeeping

Length of Service:  

One year (renewable), usually beginning in August

Requirements:  

  • Age 21 and older

  • Some understanding of mission and role of the laity

  • Commitment to Christian values and lay volunteer service

  • Knowledge of Catholic Church structure is helpful

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, computer, and writing skills

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

  • Strong listening skills

  • Previous volunteer experience is desirable

Financial Arrangements:  

  • Year-Long Volunteers: stipend, health/dental insurance, housing and board, two weeks of vacation

  • Short-Term or Summer Volunteers: Handled on a case-by-case basis. Stipend and housing capabilities are limited

Living Arrangements:  

CNVS locates housing for year-long volunteers, usually in Christian community settings.

Size of Program:  

One or Two year-long volunteers. Short-term volunteers vary throughout the year.

Training:  

On-site orientation as well as ongoing training, supervision and support throughout period of service.

Application Deadline:  

Year-long positions: prefer application by May 1. Short-term positions: at least one month before desired start date.
