

For Volunteers : Urgent Opportunities : More InfoUrgent OpportunityRe-Entry Support at Free Minds Book Club Free Minds Book Club & Writing Workshop Program Coordinator- Notre Dame Americorps Volunteer Mission Free Minds uses books, creative writing and mentoring to empower teenaged boys at the Washington, DC Jail to transform their lives. By connecting them to supportive services throughout their incarceration into reentry, Free Minds inspires these youth to see their potential and pursue new educational and career goals. Job Description Assist Program Directors implementing all three phases of program as directed. Book Club Phase (for members at the DC Jail) Curriculum development and program support for weekly book club & writing session at DC Jail Assist with Poetry Blog, Writing Coaches and Book Drive initiatives Continuing Support Phase (for members who have transferred to federal prisons) Manage Pen Pal program connecting community volunteers to youth Assist with quarterly book order through Amazon Coordinate monthly newsletter “Free Minds Connect” mailed to all members Reentry Support Phase (for members who have returned home) Manage week long paid Internship Program in Free Minds office for members to gain life skills and job skills Assist Reentry Outreach Specialist with educational and employment referrals Contact Family members and attorneys as needed Conduct site visits of partner nonprofits and government agencies Organize monthly Reentry workshops for members developing topics and speakers for example: financial literacy, fatherhood, Know your Rights Update community resource guide with relevant programs for members Measure outcomes and milestones of members using Evaluation database ETO -Efforts to Outcomes General Program Duties Assist with planning of annual poetry reading for family members and community. Represent Free Minds at events or conferences as needed Assist with marketing, PR, outreach and website updates Desired Skill Sets Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong organizational skills Ability to handle multiple projects under constrained time frame Flexible and adaptable in changing work environment Strong Computer Skills: Word, Excel, Powerpoint Experience working with youth or incarcerated youth preferred but not required Spanish speaker preferred but not required
